We continue with our series of Christian obedience. In this post we will seek out the elements that will help us as we begin or continue our journey of obedience to Christ. We will dig into the resources that will guide us, lift us, encourage us to keep moving in our chosen path. The basis of Christian obedience is multi-dimensional. His Word directs us where to begin our journey of obedience, the Holy Spirit is our present help. Jesus is our source of inspiration, and HIS perfect obedience is our ideal, which we strive for. Our prayer is our direct conversation with God. And our fellowship, our Church is part of our obedience journey, offering support, accountability and encouragement. Ultimately all these threads are inter-woven and work together for us. Let’s us walk through these;
Word of God
God’s Word is the bedrock of our existence. It’s the ultimate source of truth, a radiant light illuminating our path and piercing the soul to bring profound understanding. It is the wellspring of our strength, our hope, and our eternal salvation.For a believer, God’s Word is more than a book; it’s a living, dynamic force that shapes our hearts, transforms minds, and draws us into a deeper relationship with our Creator. In life’s storms and moments of deep darkness, God’s Word stands as an unwavering lighthouse. Let’s see how the word of God helps in our growth. The following table will help us learn more;

The Word of God in the book of Joshua 1:8 clearly states “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success”
The Holy Spirit
Have you ever felt a lightbulb suddenly turning on? Giving you a better understanding of scripture. That’s often the Holy Spirit at work, opening our heart to God’s Word. He’s not just about intellectual understanding; He empowers you and me to obey what we learn. He gently nudges us where we fall short, leading us to repentance, and then equips us to live a life that truly pleases God. The Holy Spirit is the key to both knowing and doing God’s will.
John 16:13
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.”
The Example of Jesus Christ
Jesus’ life, as recorded in the Gospels, is a masterclass in obedience. By studying His actions and words, we see what complete surrender to the Father truly looks like. He embodies perfect obedience, showing us the path we are called to follow. His example becomes our guide, to a life of faithful surrender.
John 13:15
“For I gave you an example, so that you also would do just as I did for you.”
Hebrews 5:8
“Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.”
Prayer
We find both direction and empowerment through prayer, our direct line to God. It’s the channel through which we align our desires with His perfect will, receiving the very strength we need to obey. It’s important to remind ourselves that prayer;

- Transforms our heart.
- Empowers us.
- Helps us overcome temptations.
- Cultivates a living relationship with God
Fellowship of the Believers
We are not to walk the path of obedience alone. The Church is God’s gift to us, a community of fellow travelers who offer support, hold us accountable, and cheer us on. We learn from each other’s stories, are challenged by each other’s faithfulness, and find strength in our shared journey. Find the right Bible based fellowship and walk with them.
Hebrews 10:24-25
“And let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds, not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
