Moses’ life is a powerful testament to obedience, even when faced with immense challenges, personal insecurities, and difficult circumstances. His journey reveals several key characteristics of his obedience.
Reluctance to Response:
When God first called Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3), Moses didn’t immediately responded to the call. He questioned God, citing his inadequacy as a speaker (Exodus 4:10). He even tried to get out of the responsibility altogether. This initial reluctance shows that obedience isn’t always easy or natural. It often involves wrestling with our own doubts and fears. However, Moses ultimately chose to obey God’s call. This demonstrates that obedience is a choice we make. We have to make this choice even when we feel unprepared.
Obedience amidst great Opposition
Confronting Pharaoh, the most powerful ruler in the world at that time, was a daunting task. Moses faced Pharaoh’s stubborn resistance, observed the hardening of his heart, and endured the escalating plagues that devastated Egypt. Yet, he continued to obey God’s instructions, demonstrating courage and perseverance in the face of intense opposition. This highlights that obedience often requires us to step outside our comfort zones and face challenging circumstances.
Obedience to the Letter
God gave Moses very specific instructions regarding the Passover (Exodus 12). He also instructed him on the construction of the tabernacle (Exodus 25-40). Additionally, God provided directives for the giving of the Law (Exodus 20). Moses meticulously followed these instructions, demonstrating the importance of precise obedience to God’s commands. He didn’t take shortcuts or make his own adjustments; he did exactly as God commanded.
Leading Through Obedience
Moses’ obedience extended to his leadership of the Israelites. He faithfully communicated God’s instructions to the people, even when they grumbled and rebelled. He interceded for them before God and led them through the wilderness, facing numerous challenges and difficulties along the way. This highlights the responsibility of leaders to be obedient to God and to guide others in obedience as well. This ends here.
Moses’ life shows that obedience is not about being perfect. It is about having a heart committed to following God, even when it’s difficult.I hope that this read will make sense with you and help you grow in the faith.
